Soccer Spilts Two at Tri-Valley Classic

DANVILLE, Calif. – The St. Francis varsity soccer team split two games at the Tri-Valley Classic on Friday including a 3-1 win over Buchanan and 2-1 loss to nationally-ranked Archbishop Mitty.

Junior Jackie Stanco scored on a penalty kick after Jadyn Alford was taken down in the box, cutting the deficit to the Monarchs but it was not enough. Archbishop had taken an early lead in the first half with a goal in the eighth minute and added a second goal later.

Archbishop Mitty was ranked No. 19 by TopDrawerSoccer.com nationally entering the tournament.

Stanco scored twice on the day, improving her team-best goal total to 10 on the season.

St. Francis (8-1-1) opened the day with an early victory over Buchanan, ranked No. 3 in the state and No. 24 nationally by Maxpreps.

Hayley Kreling scored before the half in the 34th minute to give the Troubadours a 1-0 lead off an assist by Jackie Stanco. It was her first goal of the season.

In the second, Buchanan tied the score at 1 before Stanco scored off an assist by Grace Barger in the 54th minute to push the lead to 2-1. Senior Lindsey Piatanesi added a third goal for the team from a pass by Micayla Ratukalou for the final margin of victory. It was her third of the season.

St. Francis takes on Maria Carillo at 10:30 at Sycramore Park #3 and Redwood at 2:30 p.m. to complete the slate for 2019. The continue Delta League play on January 10 at Elk Grove.
