Trio Earns Varsity Basketball Promotions

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman JoJo Myers and sophomores Raquel Smith and Zahra Smith have earned promotions to the varsity team, Head Coach Heather Volek Brownholtz announced.

"I am excited to see a new journey and prospective on the court," said Myers after completing her season with the JV Gold team on Friday at Davis.

Myers led the team in scoring 12.2 points per game, helping the team to a 23-4 record.

"She is an energizer bunny with speed and handle," said Ender. "She has the ability to shoot deep threes as well as get to the rim and free throw line. She has outstanding vision to see the floor and passes and shares the ball."

Myers scored in double figures in 18 games and tallied 20 or more points in a game two times.

Zahra Smith scored six points per game while being one of the team's top rebounders.

"She showed the physicality and desire to get the basketball and score around the rim," said Ender. She works extremely hard and loves to compete."

She scored a single-game high 14 points twice among six double-digit games.

"It means I worked really hard and I am being recognized for what I put into the season," said Smith. "I am grateful and it a great honor."

Raquel Smith, who had a breakout sophomore season after missing most of last season, averaged 9.9 points per game and had 14 games in double digits, scoring 10 or more in the last five games and eight of the last nine overall.

"She did not play last year and she flat out gets after it in practice and games," said Ender. "She can jump. She used her speed and ability to prosper in the style that we played."

They joined the team for their first practice this weekend and will suit up for the playoff game on Tuesday.
