Basketball Falls to Franklin 58-45 for First Home Loss

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – With first-place in the Delta League on the line, the St. Francis basketball team fell to Franklin 58-45 Wednesday to drop their first home game of the season. The Wildcats remained undefeated at 9-0 in league play, while the Troubadours fell to 6-2.

"We had a great first half and Franklin is a very good team," said Head Coach Heather Volek Brownholtz. "All I ask is the girls compete and give the best they possibly can. I am really proud of their efforts. As we match to the playoffs, we have to learn from these games."

Franklin (21-4) used a 27-point third quarter to take a 46-33 lead and momentum. Malia Clark scored 14 of her 20 points in the quarter to lead the Wildcats.

Senior Mia Fleming-Mullins led SF with 20 points with sox boards. Junior Sarah Cloninger had 10 points and 11 rebounds to record her second consecutive double-double and sixth on the season.

The Troubies managed just six points in the second quarter but still held a 21-19 at the half. Mackenzie Lee hit two three-pointers in the first quarter to fuel the early advantage. She finished with eight points in the game with eight rebounds and seven assists.

St. Francis travels to Elk Grove on Friday night on the Access Sacramento Hometown Game of the Week.
