Basketball Wins Opener at Nike TOC

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Senior Hannah Dorsey scored a varsity career-high eight points to lead St. Francis to a 40-35 win over Basha in the first round of the Dan Wiley bracket at the 2019 Nike Tournament of Champions.

"We feel really good especially to be on the winning side of the bracket," said Dorsey, who posted career-highs with eight points and six boards.

Dorsey made her first career start filling in for injured guard Nicole Rivera.

St. Francis trailed 21-19 at the half but broke open a close game with a 10-point third while holding the Bears to just three points.

"Coach told us to keep pushing and play our game," said Dorsey. "We got the momentum to pull through."

Dorsey led the team with six points in the period and Mia Fleming-Mullins, who was held scoreless in the first half, started warming up with four points. She added eight in the closing quarter to finish with a team-best 12 points and 11 rebounds

Senior Jasmine Lee had 10 points with Mackenzie Le adding six and Sarah Cloninger contributing four points and 10 boards.

St. Francis (5-4) played Basha for the second straight season at the Nike TOC after defeating them 59-44 last season. The Troubadours opened the tournament with a  win for the first time since 2016-17 and look to start 2-0 for the first time at the Nike TOC since 2015-16.
