SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. James Falcons won the St. Francis PAL Basketball Tournament on Sunday with a 45-31 win over St. Francis Wolves. Eighth grader Bria McGahan led the team with 17 points in the final, earning a spot on the eight-player All-Tournament team.
St. Mary School defeated St. Rose 46-28 in the third place game and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton won the consolation bracket with a 33-24 win over Our Lady of Assumption. Sacred Heart defeated Presentation in the seventh-place game.
St. James trailed 10-8 after the first-quarter as the Wolves hit a pair of three-pointers in the opening period. They finished with seven in the game, scoring 21 of their 31 points beyond the arc.
The Falcons took control of the game in the second quarter as McGahan scored 12 of her 17 points to take a 29-16 lead at the half.
Annie Sale added 13 points in the win and Nikki Sutliff scored 11 points. Olivia Ulep led St. Francis with 11 points and Sydney Teoh scored nine points, earning all-tournament honors.
Other members of the all-tournament team included Jadyn Norman, Sacred Heart; Sophie Tequida, Presentation; Mia Acosta, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton; Abigail Simmons, OLA; Sarah Bashore, St. Mary; and Natalie Vigil, St. Rose.
