Basketball Opens Delta League with Win; Holy Hoops Next

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Sarah Cloninger and senior Mia Fleming Mullins both had double-doubles and senior Nicole Rivera contributed 12 points as St. Francis won their Delta League opener Friday night at Cosumnes Oaks 58-45.

"We talked about giving our all tonight," said Rivera after the game. "We played together as a team and we ran the ball and everything fell into place."

Rivera, who had recently missed games due to injury, tied her season-high with four three pointers to record her seventh double-figure game of the season.

"I missed being on the court with my teammates so I wanted to do everything I could to help them out," said Rivera.

The game was close in the first half as the lead changed six times and had three ties. The Troubies took a 25-22 advantage into the break.

"We had a tough matchup in the first half but the momentum stayed with us in the second half and we kept building off that to extend our lead," said Cloninger, who had eight of her 16 in the first.

Rivera hit three of her triples in the second half and the Troubadours slowly extended the advantage to double digits.

Cloninger and Fleming-Mullins helped keep the Wolfpack from getting closer. Combing for 25 rebounds. Mackenzie le led the team with seven assists and added eight boards.

St. Francis plays at Christian Brothers on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

"The momentum is huge coming off a win," said Rivera. "We are definitely are going to carry it on and hopefully come out with a winning result."
