Basketball Closes First Half with 59-45 Win over Davis

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Mia Fleming-Mullins scored 11 of her game-high 26 points in the second half to help St. Francis post a 59-45 win over Davis Tuesday. The win was the fourth straight in league play as the Troubadours improved to 5-1. Junior Mackenzie Le finished with a career-high in both points (21) and steals (7) while dishing six assists.

"We talked about Kobe right before the second half," said Head Coach Heather Volek Brownholtz. "I thought we needed to do an ode to Kobe and Gianna. Kobe was great and he inspired everyone to be great. It was an opportunity and the girls were tired. We were inspired by the events of this week and I was pleased with the way the girls responded."

Leading 29-26 at the half, the Troubadours out-scored the Blue Devils 15-4 in the third quarter behind Fleming-Mullins and four points by junior Sarah Cloninger.

Junior Mackenzie Le scored six in the fourth and Fleming-Mullins finished off her 10th 20-point game of the season.

"Mia is really good at finishing anywhere," said Le. "Even if we throw her a crazy pass. She is able to get a hand on it and finish it well.

Le was the spark plug to start the game, scoring nine of the team's 16 points in the first quarterand totaling 15 in the first half.

"She makes great reads and is a great point guard," said Brownholtz. "She understood the speed and pace of their guards could not hang with her. There were a lot of lanes and gaps and she read them perfectly."

St. Francis managed just 3-of-15 beyond the arc in the game but won the game by taking the ball to the basket.

"They know we have shooters and they defended them well but it opened up the court for my slasher Mackenzie," said Brownholtz. "We are a hard team to defend when we put it together."

St. Francis has its bye this Friday before starting the second half of league play on Monday against Cosumnes Oaks with a rematch at Franklin on Wednesday.

"I was just fired up," said Le. "We really had to win this game. I knew we had to give it our all to finish it off strong."
