Basketball Opens Folsom-Vista Classic with 55-45 Win

FOLSOM, Calif. – Senior Nicole Rivera recorded nine steals to help the St. Francis basketball team record a 10-point tournament opening win over McFarland in the Folsom-Vista Classic at Vista del Lago High School. It was the fourth straight win for the team.

The Troubadours started slow with 14 points in the first and eight in the second to enter half tied at 22. Senior Mia Fleming-Mullins, the reigning CalHiSports.com NorCal Player of the Week, scored 12 of her game-high 22 points in the half to pace the Troubies.

Senior Jasmine Lee got hot after the break with three triples and 13 of her 19 points in the third quarter as SF built a 10-point lead 43-33.

"We really woke up in the third," said Lee. "We had a really slow and long first half. We started playing the way we have."

Fleming-Mullins closed out the game the way she started with six points to seal the victory in the fourth.

Senior Nicole Rivera contributed with her steals to help hold off McFarland.

"We all played our role and it came out a success," said Rivera. "The defense played a big part. We came to the conclusion if we stopped our man they couldn't score on us and it helped us get a lot of shots up."

Rivera added five points to her huge swipe total to go with four rebounds, while junior Mackenzie Le added five points, six assists and four steals. Jasmine Lee finished with her 19 points with 16 coming in the second half and added six boards, six steals and four assists. Fleming-Mullins led the team with seven boards and Sarah Cloninger grabbed six.

St. Francis (4-2) will play Folsom on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. at Vista del Lago in the second semifinal.

"We are playing Folsom and it is going to be a really good game," said Lee.

Folsom defeated Liberty Ranch on Thursday, while Christian Brothers and Vista del Lago won their games and will meet in the first semifinal at 7:00 p.m. CB defeated Bishop Manague 52-51 and Vista held off Davis 50-33.
