Basketball Wins Senior Night Contest

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Seniors Jasmine Lee and Mia-Fleming Mullins each scored in double figures as St. Francis posted a 58-29 win over Pleasant Grove on Senior Night.

"It was overwhelming at the beginning," said Lee, who hit three-triples in the 20-point second quarter for the team. "It was filled with love and joy. I was just glad that all my friends came together to support me and all the seniors on my team."

The night started with a pregame ceremony for seniors Lee, Hannah Dorsey, Nicole Rivera, Mia Fleming-Mullins and manager/player Hannah Malek.

"I am proud of them to walk off this court with a win," said Head Coach Heather Volek Brownholtz. "We don't know where we will seed in the playoffs. The girls only had one loss on this court all season."

The Troubadours took a halftime lead 32-26 over the Eagles thanks to Lee and 12 first-half point by Fleming-Mullins. SF took control of the game in the third, shutting down Pleasant Grove as Lee added seven more points along with holding the Eagles scoreless in the third and just three points in the fourth.

"It was our defense in the third quarter," said Lee.

The team closed out the game to get back in the win column in league play. Junior Sarah Cloninger flirted with a triple double with 11 points, 12 boards and eight steals.

Fleming Mullins finished with 17 points and seven boards with three steals, while Lee had 16 points with seven boards and three steals.

St. Francis recorded 24 steals overall in the game.

The Senior Night was capped off by senior manager Hannah Malek getting her first game action after being awarded a jersey on Sunday by Brownholtz.

"It was her dream to play varsity basketball and she did that," said Brownholtz. "It is pure hard work. You can dig into the game a lot of ways. She earned those minutes tonight and her teammates were more excited about it than she was."

"It was really a heartfelt moment," said Lee, who has known her since they were three-years old.
