SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis junior Lindsey Piatanesi is among the five athletes featured in the Faces in the Crowd segment on page 26 of this week's edition of Sports Illustrated. Arizona Cardinals first-round draft pick Kyler Murray is on the cover with new Miami Dolphins quarterback Josh Rosen. The issue is on newsstands now.
'It is super exciting to be in Sports illustrated," said Piatanesi. "I would have never thought that would happen but winning the title has been special."
Piatanesi is recognized for her role in helping the St. Francis soccer team win the CIF Northern California Regional Division II title with her overtime golden goal. She finished the season with a team-best 14 goals on the season.
St. Francis finished the season ranked nationally by Maxpreps and TopDrawerSoccer.com. The team will be celebrating their NorCal title on Sunday with the unveiling of the championship banner at a private ceremony.
"It is awesome to be part of winning the banner," said Piatanesi. "It will be fun to come back to St. Francis in the future and know we contributed to something that big."
Faces in the Crowd is SI's feature highlighting standout amateur athletes in high school, college and masters' sports since 1956.
The Troubies have been recognized in the feature three times over the last five years including Lauren Craig (Basketball, May 2, 2016) and Ali Tambornini (Water Polo, Dec. 7, 2015).
