Soccer Remains Undefeated with 4-0 Win over Del Oro

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Janae DeFazio scored twice and classmates Lindsey Porter and Elise Urkov added second-half scores as St. Francis shut out Del Oro 4-0 Monday at the Adamson Family Sports Complex on the Cristo Rey High School campus.

"Coming off a long weekend, it can be difficult getting your flow going because everyone is super tired," said Elise Urkov. "I am super proud of the way that we played. Coming back to the small field after playing on the bigger field all weekend is another challenge. We played really well and our communication was even better."

DeFazio scored two times in the first 15 minutes to give the Troubadours the early lead in the contest. The Troubies failed to score again in the half and made adjustments at the break that led to a better team half.

"We had a big weekend with four games in two days with a day off with homework and finals coming up and we had a game again," said Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. "They did some interesting shape work that befuddled us a little bit. Halftime was good and we collected ourselves. We got a sense of what pictures were happening and we did a much better job in terms of team work. As a result, it came easier."

Porter scored in the 60th minute off an assist by junior Grace Barger and Urkov scored in the 72nd minute off a Porter assist.

"We had more communication from the midfield which is an important part of the field," said Urkov. "After talking together, every started working together as a team moving forward and not facing as much frustration in the middle was really helpful."

St. Francis (4-0-3) opens league play on Monday, Dec. 17 against new Delta League member Cosumnes Oaks at 4 p.m.

St. Francis 4, Del Oro 0

SF – DeFazio 2, Porter, Urkov.
