Get to Know: Soccer's #10 Lindsey Porter

Get to Know: Soccer's #10 Lindsey Porter
Lindsey Porter has been a four-year varsity player at St. Francis. She has signed to play at UC Santa Barbara in the fall. Porter has recorded 16 career goals and 14 assists over 80 games played.

What has it meant to be part of this program?
"Starting off it was really cool looking up to the seniors and how they led the team. It helped shaped me to lead the team my junior and senior years. It has been fun growing as a team through the years. It is fun being an older player on the team and leading by example. Our team chemistry is amazing this year. I hope we can come together and do well the rest of the year."

What is the most exciting part of the Davis rivalry and competing with them?
"The most exciting part is working as a team and for each other for the same goal. We need to start early and get a goal and the game will progress as we go."

Do you have a favorite goal from your soccer career?
"My favorite goal was in a tournament (with San Juan) in Las Vegas. I was playing in front of the UCSB coaches and a lot of coaches that were recruiting me. The ball got passed in the air. It bounced in front of me and I volleyed it from 45 yards out to score. It helped us to win the game."

What are you looking forward to about your opportunity at UCSB?
"I am looking forward to the challenge. Having been older on my high school team and playing club my whole life I have got used to it. I look forward to being challenged as a freshman on a college team. I look forward to playing in the Big West Conference and playing in the Cal Poly rivalry game."

What have you learned from past playoff experiences to help this year?
"I think the biggest thing I have taken from past experiences iI have had is you have to take it one game at a time instead of thinking about the end game. If you lose, you are out. You have to start with one win and continue on."

What are you looking forward to about playing with your senior teammates the rest of the season?
"That group means a lot to me. We have all grown together playing with each other and helping each other improve. The last few games and playoffs of our high school games will mean a lot to us. It will be the last time playing together before we go on our ways. We are going to make the best of it and use each other's strengths."

What advice have you given your mom about attending SWAP day?
"I told her to make it to class in time, be nice to the teachers and not to tell them she is Lindsey Porter's mom or they will roll their eyes."
