Get to Know: Soccer's #27 Sam Shimada
Sam Shimada is in her fourth season in the soccer program and second on the varsity team. She scored her first varsity goal against Sheldon during her junior season. Sam has a twin sister, Serena, who runs track for the Troubadours. She has skied since she was five years old, making the trip up to Tahoe almost every weekend. She has been accepted to the University Nevada Reno and has applied to the University of Utah.
 
What does it feel like to be in the final week of your first semester of senior year?
"It is crazy. It went by so fast. I have had fun so far. Next semester is going to be even better."
 
What are you looking forward to this soccer season?
"I am looking forward to geting close with all my teammates and hopefully win the section title."
 
What are your individual goals?
"I want to improve as a player and hopefully get a couple goals."
 
What is your favorite soccer memory?
"My favorite memory was defeating Davis my sophomore year on the JV team. I played a big part in it."
 
What does it mean to you to be part of the soccer program?
"It is a lot of fun and I am glad I was able to play my final year. I was hesitant at first about playing. It is good to be able to support my teammates from the bench and when I play."
 
What is the most interesting fact about being a twin?
"For us, twin telepathy is a real thing. We say things at the same time or think the same thing all the time. It is real."
 
What has it been like to share the St. Francis experience with her?
"It has been super fun. She is always there to talk about things. It is good to be able to share the experiences."
 
Tell us about your skiing?
"We have been going up to Tahoe since I was five years old. I started competitive racing when I was seven. I started coaching three years ago after a tore my ACL. I coach Mighty Mites – who range in age from four to 10. My job is to help them become racers."
 
What do you enjoy most about coaching skiing?
"I enjoy having the relationship with the kids. I see them every weekend. They know who I am and being able help them do what I did when I was younger is pretty cool. It is fun to see them become racers."
 
If you could live in a book, TV show or movie, where would you live: The Fosters.
What animal best represents you: Polar Bear.
What is your Greatest Achievement: Becoming a ski coach.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be: Teleport.
If you could time travel, would you go to the past or the future: Future.
What's the concert you want to see: Any country concert.
What teacher has inspired you the most: Mrs. Stone.
Favorite Holiday: My Birthday.
Favorite Olympic athlete: Mikeala Shiffrin.
Favorite Disney Character: Belle.
What's your favorite dinner: Stir Fry.
Hero: My dad.
What is on your Bucket List: Helicopter skiing.
