Soccer Ties Christian Brothers 1-1 in Rocklin Invitational

Soccer Ties Christian Brothers 1-1 in Rocklin Invitational

ROCKLIN, Calif. – St. Francis and Christian Brothers tied for the second time this week 1-1 in the Rocklin Invitational. Janae DeFazio provided the equalizing goal late to help the Troubies get the tie and earn the top seed out of Pool B at the Rocklin Invitational.

"We found a way to ground it out," said Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. "We made some adjustments. Grace Barger got possession and played a great ball into Janae and she tucked it away."

St. Francis was down at the half after the Falcons scored on a penalty kick to take the first lead over three halves between the teams. They tied 0-0 in the Holy Cup matchup at Hughes Stadium on Monday.

"Today was a day of challenges," said Robinson. "The season is going to be a series of hurdles. Some injuries early on were a hurdle. The smoke was a hurdle. There have been hurdles we have had to manage and today giving up a dubious PK was a hurdle."

But DeFazio connected off an assist by Barger on a nice pass down the middle of the field, tying the game at one. It was her first goal of the season and 31st of her career.

"It felt really good," said DeFazio. "It was a really special goal because we wanted to beat CB especially after Holy Cup. Tying it up was equally important in this game."

St. Francis advanced to the final against host Rocklin to be played Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.
