Senior Jackie Koerwitz Scores and Adds Two Assists in Win over Cosumnes Oaks

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Senior Jackie Koerwitz scored and added two assists in a 3-1 win over Cosumnes Oaks Friday night for the varsity soccer team.

"This is a new opponent and they are coming and making a statement," said Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. "They are a good side. They are organized, smart and they have done well against our league opponents."

St. Francis scored first when junior Taylor Earle found the net off a rebound header from Koerwitz to give the Troubies a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute. Koerwitz connected with a blast from 30 yards out into the left corner for a 2-0 lead. Senior Lindsey Porter had the assist.

"She is great to have back and we are trying to find a rhythm with her," said Robinson of Koerwitz. "She is a nice voice and a presence in the air who can finish."

Koerwitz has two goals and two assists in four games since returning to the lineup.

Junior Marli Berry added a third goal for the team assisted by Koerwitz and Janae DeFazio.

"Every game is really important and we had three games this week," said Berry. "It was important for us to come out and have a lot of discipline to put these away to get the points in the standings.

St. Francis finished the week 2-1 with games that included nationally-ranked Davis on the road and clutch win on Wednesday in severe rainy conditions against Franklin.

"To play CO today on a tough week on the road is a statement," said Robinson. "We have got more organized and our leadership is coming into play. They have responded well."

St. Francis (12-2-3, 5-1) returns to action next Wednesday against Sheldon at Cristo Rey High School.
