DANVILLE, Calif. – The St. Francis soccer team went 3-1 at the Tri-Valley Classic to complete the non-league portion of their schedule in preparation for the Delta League schedule in 2019.

Lindsey Piatanesi scored in three of the four games, totaling five goals in the tournament, while senior Sam Shimada had a hat trick against Taft among six players who scored. Overall, The Troubadours scored 18 goals in the tournament with the lone loss to nationally-ranked Archbishop Mitty 2-1.

St. Francis opened with a 4-2 win over Nolan Catholic out of Texas. Paitanesi and Grace Barger scored in the first half for a 2-2 tie at the break, with Piatanesi adding a goal in the 45th minute off the second assist by senior Janae DeFazio. Barger added her second goal in the 57th minute off DeFazio's third assist in the game.

The Torubies faced Archbishop Mitty, the 23rd-ranked team in the nation and seventh-best in California in the second game on Dec. 21. Piatanesi scored in the first half to tie the game at 1 but Mitty added a second-half goal for the win.

On Saturday, the Troubies posted two shutouts over Taft and Heritage. In the first game against Taft, Sam Shimada recorded a hat trick and Ari Spence, Lillian Hayes, A.J. Tanner, Jane Gregory and Taylor Earle added goals. Shimada added two assists and Earle had two assists with her goal. Gregory also had an assist in the win.

St. Francis completed play with a 5-0 win over Heritage. Piatanesi scored twice and Barger, Mari Vallejo and Tanner added goals.

St. Francis returns to Delta League play on Jan. 9 against Elk Grove at Cristo Rey High School.
