Get to Know: Soccer’s #10 Lindsey Porter

What did the team learn from Holy Cup?
"From Holy Cup, I think as a whole we learned to play more as a team and trust in each other's abilities. We also learned that in order to succeed, our desire for success needs to be greater than our fear of failure."

What does being a captain mean to you?
"To me, being a captain means to lead the team in a positive manner even when we are not having our best game. I think it is important for us to look after the younger players on the team both on the field and at school. Lifting up the mentality of the girls is also important. Allie Cloninger has taught me that being a captain means setting good examples and maintaining the culture of our team."

What are your goals this season?
"My goals this season are to enjoy every minute of it with my team and play the best soccer we can. I hope to grow as a team and make this a season one remember, by winning the Delta League."

Tell us about your college commitment to UCSB and why the Gauchos?
"It was very exciting to commit to UCSB. I chose the Gauchos because it has always been a dream of mine to play there and I love the atmosphere of the team and the school. The team chemistry is unreal and the coaches want the best for you, but still push you on and off the field."

What is a fun fact about you?
"I am obsessed with doing Spartan Races with my dad."

Favorite quote from Coach MaryClaire?
"My favorite quote from MaryClaire is "Be willing to put in the work to make your teammates better every day." I look up to MaryClaire on and off the pitch."
