Troubies breeze past Bruins in playoff opener

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis won all six singles matches and all three doubles in straight sets, shutting out Bear Creek by a 9-0 team score in a first-round matchup of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II girls' tennis championship, held at Rio Del Oro Sports Club Monday afternoon.

The fourth-seeded Troubadours improve to 11-5 for the season and will now host the winner of the No. 5 Rodriguez-No. 12 Kennedy match on Wednesday, also at Rio Del Oro at 1:30 p.m.

Four of the SF wins came as a result of "double bagel" victories, including Maria McDougall at No. 1 singles, Sophia Troppmann at No. 5 singles, Anna Dinh at No. 6 singles and the tandem of Arden Garcia and Sarah Ramos-Lasso at No. 1 doubles. In fact, no Troubie lost more than two games in any given set.

Rodridguez went 12-4 this season with a 12-3 mark in the Monticello Empire League, good for second place behind undefeated Vacaville. Complete information does not exist for Kennedy, which did not report its full season to MaxPreps. The Cougars compete in the Metro League along with McClatchy and River City, both of which compete in the SJS Division I bracket.
