Troubies roll past Herd in Delta League road action

ELK GROVE, Calif. – St. Francis swept all six singles and all three doubles matchups, including "double bagel" victories at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, to claim a 9-0 win at Elk Grove in Delta League girls' tennis action Thursday.

The Troubadours improve to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in league play.

SF picked up its perfect 6-0, 6-0 victories from Alexa Randall, who swept Erika Yepes at No. 2 singles; and Arden Garcia, who dispatched Avery Rau at No. 4 singles. The Troubies' No. 1 doubles tandem of Sophia Troppmann and Anya Bilal nearly matched the feat against Sophia Salamanca and Anna Scruggs, pulling off a 6-1, 6-0 win.

All St. Francis wins came in straight sets except for Caroline Niethammer, who moved up to No. 3 singles in the absence of Tatum Walbeck. Niethammer stormed to a 6-1 first-set win over Tessa Limoges, before Limoges turned the tide with a 6-2 equalizer. However, Niethammer recovered with a dominating 6-1 deciding set. The two battled for so long that the No. 1 doubles match had already advanced to a second set by the time Niethammer and Limoges walked off the court.

Sarah Ramos-Lasso and Ava Ensberg also enjoyed the opportunity to move into the singles lineup in Thursday's win, each taking straight-set victories. Ensberg battled Sarah Wilber to a 7-5 tiebreaker in the opener before breaking all three serves en route to a 6-0 win in the second.

St. Francis continues its long stretch of road matches on Tuesday, taking on Cosumnes Oaks for another Delta League dual. Match time is 3:45 p.m.
