Seniors take center stage in home tennis finale

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis swept all nine matches, including three singles courts featuring seniors Caroline Niethammer, Kate Jones and Claire Allaye-Chan – as the Troubadours celebrated their 2024 graduates-to-be in a Delta League dual home match against Sheldon Thursday afternoon.

St. Francis improves to 10-3 for the year and 7-2 in Delta League play.

Niethammer, a regular in the singles lineup throughout the season, seized the opportunity to play No. 1 for the day, dispatching Zayna Abboushi by 6-0, 6-1 scores. Jones and Allaye-Chan normally play doubles for the Troubies, but were slotted into the singles lineup in part due to the occasion of Senior Day. Jones scored a double-bagel at No. 4 singles, while Allaye-Chan picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5.

Jones had one of four double bagels for SF on the day: Sophia Troppmann at No. 2, Arden Garcia at No. 3 and Ananya Saini at No. 6.

The Troubies return to action on Monday for the resumption of Tuesday's rain-halted dual at Pleasant Grove. All matches suspended in progress will pick up where they left off.
