SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Grace Dunham earned Athlete of the Year honors for cross country, while Gaby Hawkins and Alynn Wright earned Coach of the Year nods in water polo and volleyball, respectively, as the Delta League rolled out its fall all-league honors over the weekend.
Many of the all-league winners were determined earlier in the season, such as cross country's finishes at the championship meet and golf's individual standings from dual and center tournament play. The tennis awards come from a combination of top-four finishes at the singles and doubles championships plus at-large selections by the league coaches. Volleyball and water polo awards are voted by the coaches. However, by policy, the league awards are not officially announced until the last Delta League member has completed its respective section playoff participation.
Dunham, a National Letter of Intent signee to nearby UC Davis, won the league championship, and thus snared the top of the 12 finishes that garner all-league status. Hawkins picked up Coach of the Year honors in her first season at the Troubadour water polo helm, guiding her program to an 18-11 record and a second-round finish in the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs. Wright shared coaching honors with Franklin's Kristen Williams, adding another accolade to a multiple-Hall of Fame career. Wright retired after 35 years as head varsity volleyball coach at St. Francis. She was honored accordingly in the team's Senior Night program on October 19.
What follows before is a summary of all St. Francis fall All-Delta League honorees, plus team awards as are available. Many of the teams have not held their season awards banquets, so the list will be updated as those honors are announced.
Flag football, the Troubies' sixth fall sport and newest interscholastic offering, competes in the Sierra Foothill League. Those awards will be announced later in the fall.
