SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Chidera Okoye, freshman Sydney Teoh and freshman Lilian Vicio earned Most Valuable Player accolades for the varsity, JV Gold and JV Red basketball celebrated the 2021-22 season with their annual year-end awards banquet at the SFHS dining hall Tuesday night.
The event also doubled as the annual "Booster-Q" barbecue, an event that did not take place during the regular season due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Okoye and fellow sophomore Brianna McGahan were also recognized for their All-Delta League honors, announced earlier in March. Additionally, varsity coaches David Carmichael and Angela Dusel presented Carolina Ingenito with her Delta League All-Sportsmanship patch.
The banquet also provided an opportunity to honor key parent volunteers for each level, plus the work of assistant athletics director and athletic trainer Kelly Ketcham. Finally, Carmichael expressed his gratitude to his Troubie athletes and families. Carmichael stepped down from his head coaching post after the season but will remain with the program in a capacity to be determined later.
The Troubie varsity team posted a 14-12 record in 2021-22, finished in a tie for third in the Delta League and earned a berth in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I tournament. Under the watch of Melissa Triebwasser and Brittany Woodard, JV Gold went 22-4 overall with a perfect 12-0 record against the Delta League, and captured a tournament title at Valley in early December. JV Red went 12-5 under head coach John Bashore and assistant coach Melanie Perron, highlighting the year with a dominating tourney title at Oak Ridge's Trojan Toss Up during the Christmas break.
