St. Francis falls to Granite Bay, JV teams prevail

GRANITE BAY, Calif. – The St. Francis JV Gold and JV Red teams posted wins of 33-10 and 62-24, respectively, but the Troubadour varsity squad struggled to just 30.6 percent shooting from the field to suffer a 57-32 loss in a girls' basketball tripleheader at Granite Bay High School Tuesday night.

The Troubie varsity team moves to 1-1 overall. The Grizzlies remain unbeaten at 3-0.

Raquel Smith led SFHS with six points while Emily Dusel and Carolina Ingenito each chipped in five. Ingenito also led the Troubies on the boards with seven rebounds, but St. Francis committed 19 turnovers that led to 16 GB points. The Grizzlies jumped out to a 16-0 start, including a shutout first quarter, and led 24-5 at the half.

Earlier in the afternoon, the all-freshman JV Red squad dispatched GB by the 62-24 final. Lilian Vicio poured in 23 points with six steals, with more than half of that offense coming in the Troubies' 23-point first quarter. Carly Okamoto chipped in another 12 points, including eight as part of that opening frame.

The JV Gold team followed with its 33-10 win. Head coach Melissa Triebwasser cited Aubrey O'Donnell has her player of the game, thanks to her defense: eight rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Meanwhile, sophomore guard Emma Karamanoukian scored 10 points, while the Troubie defense held the Grizzlies to just three points after the intermission.

The SFHS varsity squad goes idle until its December 7 home game with Laguna Creek. The JV Gold heads to Pittsburg for the 11th Lady Pirates Holiday Classic this weekend, while JV Red stays closer to home in tourney action at Kennedy.
