Troubies fall in Sac-Joaquin Section opener

STOCKTON, Calif. -- Freshman guard Sydney Teoh scored a team-leading 10 points but 12th-seeded St. Francis could not overcome an early 21-3 hole, ultimately falling to fifth-seeded Lincoln of Stockton by a 52-29 final in the first round of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Division I girls' basketball championship tournament Thursday night.

The Troubadours finish with a 14-12 overall record. The Trojans pick up their 20th win, improving to 20-8 overall and advancing to the section quarterfinal round.

Teoh, a call-up from St. Francis' junior varsity Gold squad earlier in the week, poured in all 10 of her points after a 25-6 halftime deficit. She hit a putback with 3:25 to go in the third, drained a corner three on the next trip down, then assisted Emily Dusel in the paint with 1:46 to go, reducing the deficit to 33-15. In turn, Dusel assisted Raquel Smith later in the quarter to add to the SFHS offensive comeback.

Teoh added a baseline drive and another three-pointer in the fourth quarter, but Lincoln maintained at least an 18-point cushion down the final stretch.

Thursday's game also marked the career finales for four seniors: Carolina Ingenito, Raquel Smith, Zahra Smith and Oge Okoye.
