St. Francis drops key Delta League tilt at CO

ELK GROVE, Calif. -- Sophomore post Chidera Okoye notched a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds but St. Francis came up on the losing end of a 53-48 loss to Cosumnes Oaks in Delta League girls' basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The setback followed the Troubadours' junior varsity Gold's 55-14 win over the Wolfpack. The varsity moves to 10-8 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while the JV Gold improves to 13-3 for the year.

St. Francis trailed by as much as 33-21 midway through the third quarter, whittled away to take a 46-44 lead with under three minutes left in the fourth, but CO made its free throws and hit a three down the stretch to take the win.

Sophomore Brianna McGahan added 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds to fall just shy of a double-double of her own. Guard Emily Dusel chipped another nine boards and Carolina Ingenito snared six of her own in helping the Troubies hold a 48-30 rebounding edge. However, CO drained 10 three-pointers to its guest's four, and committed just six turnovers compared to SF's 16 miscues.

In Saturday's opener, freshman guard Sydney Teoh scored 20 points while freshman post Aubrey O'Donnell added nine points and a team-leading 10 rebounds to boost the JV Gold to the 55-14 win over the Wolfpack.

The Troubies led 18-0 at the end of the first quarter and 27-4 at halftime. They improve to 13-3 for the year.

Point guard Mackenzie Tan sank four buckets for another eight points and Eva Karamanoukian drained a three-pointer in the first-quarter onslaught as part of her seven tallies.

Saturday's doubleheader was a make-up date from a previously scheduled meeting on January 11. Both teams return to action on Tuesday for a Delta League twin bill at Pleasant Grove.
