Troubies drop Valley tournament opener

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Junior guard Jo Jo Myers drained three three-pointers en route to a game-high 15 points, but the St. Francis varsity squad ultimately dropped a 59-39 matchup to rival Christian Brothers in the first round of Valley High's Viking Tournament Thursday night.

The Troubadours slip to 1-3 for the season.

Myers was the lone St. Francis player with double-digit offense. Raquel Smith chipped in another eight points, while Anne Sale grabbed six rebounds.

The two teams battled to an even 6-6 tie for the first 5:34 of the contest before the Falcons went on a 16-2 run for the next eight minutes of play. The Troubies fought back to within a 38-33 deficit entering the fourth quarter with Myers scoring the bulk of her offense in that third quarter, but CB exploded for 21 in the finale.

The SFHS junior varsity Gold team was also scheduled to compete against Pioneer High in the JV bracket, but that game was canceled.
