Tennis Improves to 10-0 in Delta League with Win at Davis

DAVIS, Calif. – Junior Alisha Anwar posted a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles to lead five singles wins as the St. Francis tennis team posted an 8-1 win over rival Davis on Thursday. The win clinched a tie for the Delta League title with two matches remaining.

Anwar improved to 9-2 on the season with the three-set win over Michela Gunther of Davis. The Troubadours also got wins at No. 3 from senior Samantha Sonntag, No. 4 from sophomore Safaa Umar, junior Alex Evans at No. 5 and sophomore Polina Greenberg at No. 6.

Umar had to comeback from dropping the first set 3-6 to record a 6-3 win in the second to tie the match. She survived for the win with a 7-4 win in the tiebreaker to close out the match 7-6.

The Troubies also swept the doubles matches. Seniors Bianca Ariza and Peyton Spellacy swept at No. 1 doubles 6-1, 6-2 over Riley Liu and Mehrsa Hassanzadeh, while sophomore Maddie Brown and freshman Chloe Garcia were 6-1. 6-4 winners at No. 3. Sophomore Lauren Lai and junior Rosmy Alengaden won in three sets 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.

St. Francis travels to Elk Grove on Tuesday before hosting Cosumnes Oaks for Senior Night on Thursday.

St. Francis (16-1) improved to 10-0 in Delta League play and won their 51st consecutive league match. It was also their 16th consecutive win overall on this season since dropping their opener against Palo Alto.
