SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Bianca Ariza was named the St. Francis tennis team most valuable player at the team's annual banquet. The program celebrated one of their top seasons in school history that including a league title, section finalist appearance and CIF NorCal/USTA semifinals finish.

Ariza went a combined 20-2 playing at the Nos. 4-6 singles positions and top doubles positions during the season. Senior Peyton Spellacy was selected for the Team Spirit Award, while classmate junior Alisha Anwar received the Leadership Award. Sophomore Safaa Umar was named the recipient of the Dedicated Award for the second consecutive season.

2019 Tennis Highlights

• St. Francis went 21-3 overall on the season and 12-0 in the Delta League to win the league title, capturing the title for the 30th time in school history and fifth consecutive.
• The St. Francis tennis team lost 4-3 in the semifinals of the CIF/USTA Northern California Regional Championships to Saint Francis. It was the fourth consecutive CIF NorCal appearance for the program.
• The Troubadours equaled the best finish in school history with their sixth NorCal semifinal appearance. St. Francis had also advanced to the semifinals in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2017 and 2018.
• The team lost in the Sac-Joaquin Section final to Granite Bay (5-4), reaching the section finals for the fourth consecutive season.
• Coach Kristi Spector was named the Delta League Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive season, sharing Co-Coach of the Year honors with Sally Hosley of Davis
• Senior Adithi Benush and junior Alex Evans each reached the semifinals of the Delta League Singles bracket at Laguna Creek Racquet Club. Juniors Izzy Asker and Alisha Anwar prevailed over their senior teammates Bianca Ariza and Samantha Sonntag in the Delta League Doubles final 6-1, 6-3. Both pairs reached the Section doubles semifinals with Asker/Anwar reaching the doubles final.
