Tennis Serves Past Cosumnes Oaks 8-1

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Sophomores Safaa Umar and Polina Greenberg both pulled out three-set matches in singles to help St. Francis post an 8-1 victory over Cosumnes Oaks on the road on Tuesday. It was the 12th consecutive win for the team and 49th consecutive Delta League dual match victory.

The Troubadours (12-1) swept the three doubles matches led by junior Maddie Brown and Emmy Goebels at No. 1 with the duo posting a 6-2, 6-4 win. Freshmen Chloe Garcia and Norah Zhou were straight-set winners 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2, while juniors Allison Prestwich and Siena Vincent posted a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3 doubs.

Senior Sam Sonntag led the team from the No. 1 singles position, winning 6-2, 6-2 over Athena Wilson from Cosumnes Oaks. Umar won a third set tiebreaker to clinch a win at No. 2, while Greenberg repeated the feat with a three-set win.

Seniors Bianca Ariza and Peyton Spellacy also took spots in the singles lineup, winning at No. 4 and 5, respectively.

St. Francis hosts Franklin at Rio del Oro Racquet Club on Thursday at 3:45 p.m. The Booster Club will be on hand for their annual BBQ for all players, fans and coaches.
