Tennis' Umar Named Player of the Week After CIF NorCals Finish

SACRAMENTO, Calif. –Sophomore tennis star Safaa Umar has been named the GoTroubies.com Player of the Week for her performance at the CIF Northern California Regionals.

The tennis team finished up their season on Nov. 22 falling to No. 2 St. Francis Mountain View. Umar was very happy with the season. 

Q&A with Safaa Umar

What is your favorite part of the team?

"I really enjoy feeling the support of my teammates, and I equally enjoy cheering on my teammates. The environment is  euphoric at times, and it feels incredible to share wins with so many other hardworking people."

How do you feel you have played these past weeks?

"I think I have improved a lot from last year, especially when it comes to mental strength. The whole point of being a freshman is the concept of rolling over and letting people walk all over you. I really took my freshman-mind to the courts, and I was genuinely surprised when I would win. I'm happy to have a more positive mindset now."

What had been your main motivation this season?

"My team has motivated me immensely. Another thing that motivates me a lot is playing good matches."
