Distance crew represents SF at Glenn Rogers meet

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Chloe Harrison won the frosh-soph 3,200-meter race with a time of 12 minutes, 34.34 seconds, while sophomore Jordan Brace, senior Pamela Vargas and senior Amelia Bell led St. Francis in their respective races, as the Troubadours' distance crew competed at Sheldon High's Glenn Rogers Distance Carnival Friday night.

Vargas was the top SF finisher in the 1,600 varsity event, placing 11th among 42 runners at 5:39.03. Bell took fourth among 20 runners in the varsity 3,200, crossing in 12:07.89. Brace matched Bell's fourth by eclipsing the six-minute barrier in the frosh-soph 1,600 at 5:58.53.

Harrison was the lone Troubadour in her 3,200 field, while Lucie Pickering Pick joined Bell as the only St. Francis entrants in the varsity version of that distance. Pickering Pick went 12:42.41, improving on the 12:45.23 set less than a week earlier at the Halden Invitational.

Sheldon's distance carnival, named in memory of the Huskies' long-time cross country and distances coach who passed away in 2021, features events for high school, middle school and youth club athletes. The meet itself took place in a busy week for St. Francis track & field, which competed at the second Delta League center meet on Wednesday, and will field a small crew at the Sacramento Meet of Champions on Saturday. Many of the top SF distance runners did not compete at Sheldon due to their qualification to the MOC.

The Troubadour program will then return to full action at the Delta League championships, hosted by Elk Grove High on April 27 and 30.
