Troubie track splits squads at home, Dublin

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman Jasleen Gandhoke finished second in the 100-meter hurdles and third in the high jump, while the foursome of Kyah Pickett, Alexa Randall, Lucia Vicio and Colleen Medina runnered-up in the 4x100 relay to post St. Francis' top event finishes at the Jesuit Sprint, Throw And Vault track & field meet at Marauder Stadium Saturday.

Gandhoke ran the hurdles in 16.19 seconds, just eight hundredths of a second off the 16.11 at the Sac State HS Classic. However, Saturday's meet had a legal tailwind of 1.7 meters per second, making it officially a personal record. She later cleared 5-foot-2 in the high jump to match her PR. Gandhoke opted out of the 300 hurdles to focus on the high jump, as the 5-2 mark qualifies her for both the Stanford Invitational and the Arcadia Invitational. She is one of only five athletes in school history to clear five feet in her frosh season.

The Troubadours' 'A' relay team compiled a 51.02 to finish behind only Rio Americano's 50.47.

Randall later ran the 400 meters in 1:01.43, improving on her previous best by almost two seconds, and posting SF's best quarter by a freshman since Ariane Arndt went 56.87 in 2013. Arndt later set the overall school record of 54.87 at the 2016 Sac-Joaquin Section championships, a mark that has not been approached in the years since.

Among field events, senior Elise Blomquist led the Troubies with a personal-best 99-6 in the discus throw, good for sixth place. She previously fired a 98-4 at Placer's LeFebvre Relays one week earlier and a 93-10 at Oakmont's Glenn Poole Invitational.

Meanwhile, the St. Francis distance and middle distance runners hit the road to the Dublin Distance Fiesta. Senior Grace Dunham posted a team season-best 5:06.17 to lead her team in the 1,600 meters, while senior Kayla Towne was the Troubies' top finisher in the 800 with a 30th-place 2:25.21.

The Dublin meet also features awards for the top three finishers in each heat of a given event, with the winners having the option to swap the T-shirt for a bag. Chloe Harrison won the 12th heat in the 1,600 (5:51.51) and the 18th heat of the 800 (2:40.95). Sunny Schranz won the 21st heat of the 800 (2:36.51). Schranz and Jordan Brace also won awards for their heat finishes in the 1,600, with Zoe Smith and Stella Davenport each placing second in a section among the 800s.

St. Francis returns to action on Thursday for the first of two Delta League center meets, this time at Elk Grove. The first events are slated for 10 a.m.
