Water Polo Wins 10-4 over Oak Ridge, Advances to Semifinals

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior goalie Kate Watley had 10 saves in the cage and junior Caroline Wilkins scored four times in a 10-4 win for third-seeded St. Francis over sixth-seeded Oak Ridge at Jesuit Friday night.

"We came in strong tonight," said Watley. "We played hard from the first whistle and got the 5-0 lead in the first quarter. It set us up for the game."

Wilkins scored twice in the opening quarter to help the quick start for the team.

"I am really excited," said Wilkins. "I had to sit out on the bench for most of the season because of an injury. Being able to be back and playing with these girls at the end of the season when it counts is really exciting. It feels really good contribute.

St. Francis built an 8-0 before the Trojans scored their first goal of the game. SF held Rachael Kowalchick without a goal in the game. She came into the contest with a team-best 57 goals.

"It was a lot of drop defense and taking out one of their best players was one of our goals," said Watley.

Junior Kendall Houck added two goal for the Troubadours with Zoe SLoat, Alyssa Jacobsen and Emma Johnson also scoring in the contest.

No. 2 Woodcreek advanced with a 17-4 win over Lodi, setting up a semifinal game. St. Francis fell to Woodcreek on the road on Sept. 28 by the score of 6-4. The game is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. at Tokay High Schoolin Lodi. Top-seeded Davis will play No. 4 Granite Bay at 2 p.m. Davis defeated Oakdale 20-2 and Granite Bay slipped by Lincoln of Stockton 6-4 in overtime.
