St. Francis Well Represented in the Section Playoffs This Week

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis Troubadours will continue their stellar seasons as all five varsity teams will compete in Sac-Joaquin Section playoff events this week. St. Francis, who garnered No. 1 seeds in volleyball and tennis and No. 3 seed in water polo, won four Delta League titles (cross country, golf, tennis, volleyball) and added a second-place finish in water polo. The teams posted a combined 304-28 record so far this season.

The golf team (27-1) begins section playoff action on Monday at 9 a.m. at the Masters event with berths in the CIF Northern California Regional on the line. The Troubadours finished second in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I tournament last week

The volleyball team (31-4), the No. 1 seed in the Division I bracket, will host a semifinal match on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Delta League rival and No. 5 seed Pleasant Grove. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students. Students can get free “Feed the Zoo” pizza before the game in the dining hall after Homecoming preparation. SF was the section runner-up in 2017. With a win, the Troubies could play in the final at Natomas High School on Saturday.

The No. 1 seeded tennis team (18-1) will host the winner of No. 8 Armijo and No. 9 Turlock on Wednesday at Rio del Oro Racquet Club on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Admission is free. The Troubadours are the defending section champions. The team will also have Adithi Benush and Alisha anwar in the Section singles and Bianca Ariza and Sam Sonntag in the doubles tournament.

The water polo team (13-11) will host No. 14 Pitman Wednesday night at the Jesuit High School pool at 6:30 p.m. The Troubies were the section runner-ups in 2017. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students. Second round action will be held at home sites on Friday night.

The cross country team (133-11) will run in the first round of the postseason at the Sac-Joaquin Subsections Saturday morning at the Frogtown course. The top 10 teams advance to the section meet on Nov. 3.
