Water Polo Scores 23 in Win over Franklin

CARMICHAEL, Calif. – Junior Bella Vierra scored two goals among 10 Troubadours scoring two or more goals in a 23-2 victory over Franklin in a Delta League game Tuesday at Jesuit High School.

"We all had a chance to play and gain confidence," said Vierra, who set a varsity single-game high with her two goals. "We were able to make big plays that led to the scoring we have been trying to execute in practice. We grew as a team as well."

Junior Alyssa Jacobsen led the team with three goals in the win over the Wildcats. Including Vierra, nine players scored two goals in the contest including seniors Malia Arnott, Emalee Lavezzo and Reagan Garcia, juniors Kendall Houck, Sarah Mudd and Caroline Wilkins and sophomore Libby Slater. Freshman Zoe Sloat and junior Allie Belafsky each added a goal.

For Wilkins, it was her first action of the season after missing the first month with an injury.

Goalies Kate Watley and Claire McManus combined for the win in goal.

St. Francis plays in the Granite Bay Tournament at American River College this weekend.

"Watching us grow every weekend against difficult teams, we come out and give it 110 percent," said Vierra. "Whether we win or lose, we always end the game better than we were before. It carries over into the next week in practice because in the next game opportunity we are going to be able to beat that team."

The Troubadours open play on Friday at 11 a.m. against Ponderosa and play Los Altos at 4 p.m.
