Okoye earns South MOP Award at Optimist All-Stars

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Chidera Okoye scored a team-leading 13 points and earned the South team's Most Outstanding Player Award after the Sacramento Breakfast Optimist Club's Large Schools All-Star basketball game at Sacramento Charter High Saturday.

Okoye was one of two Troubadours to earn selection to the annual senior all-star gathering; however, fellow 2024 graduate Brianna McGahan was unable to participate due to conflicts with the SF lacrosse season.

The All-Delta League honoree buried four field goals and hit 5 of 6 from the free-throw line en route to her 13 points. Cosumnes Oaks' Emily Bowman added 12 points as the only other South player in double figures. The North team ultimately won the game, enjoying a run of eight unanswered near the end of the third period then draining five three-pointers in the fourth en route to a 65-55 victory.

Antelope's Isabella Azzolino led all players with 17 points, with Lincoln's Maya Hodge adding another 10 – all in the first half – to pace the North offense.

Okoye averaged 8.2 points and a team-best 7.6 rebounds per game for the Troubadours last year, helping the program to a 15-14 overall reocrd, a 9-3 league mark, and a second-round berth in the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.
