Troubies roll past Oakland at West Coast Jamboree

MARTINEZ, Calif. – Freshman Tayli Paeu-Lindgren posted a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds while senior Brianna McGahan and junior Sydney Teoh each eclipsed 20 points for the second straight game, leading St. Francis to a 69-58 win over Oakland in the Turquoise consolation semifinal of the West Coast Jamboree girls' basketball tournament at Alhambra High School Friday afternoon.

The Troubadours move to 5-7 for the season, and snap a three-game losing skid.

McGahan and Teoh followed up their career-high performances from Thursday's first-round game with performances of 26 and 23 points, respectively. McGahan shot 12 of 28 to with her four assists and nine rebounds, while Teoh shot 9-for-15 overall and 3-for-6 from three-point range. Paeu-Lindgren connected on 6 of 9 from the floor, and added four steals and a pair of blocks to her night's work.

Junior Aubrey O'Donnell and sophomore Lexi London also had six rebounds each. The collective work by the Troubies on the boards is even more impressive, given the presence of Oakland's 6-foot-3 post Ojiugo Egeonu, who averaged 17 points and 13 rebounds for AIMS College Prep before switching to the Wildcat program this year.

SF never trailed in the contest, with McGahan scoring three times and assisting London on another score in crafting a 16-9 lead. Teoh extended that to 20-9 with a baseline runner and thanks to a feed from London near the end of the first period, then McGahan hit three more buckets in the first two minutes of the second. Teoh added a transition goal with 6:03 to bump the Troubie margin to 29-13. St. Francis led 39-21 at halftime, getting a McGahan trey with 25 ticks left before the break.

The Troubies continued to roll through the third, swelling their lead to 25 points (58-33) by the end of the third. Teoh knocked down back-to-back threes midway through the frame as part of that outburst. However, one of the highlight-reel plays belonged to Paeu-Lindgren, who scored on a reverse lay-up, drew the and-one foul, then converted the free throw with 1:47 to go.

The Wildcats regrouped with 25 points in the fourth, including 12 unanswered to finish and freshman Tyliana Velasquez burying three treys. Still, the Troubies' lead to start the frame proved insurmountable. Teoh delivered another three-pointer on a pass from O'Donnell with 6:26 to go. McGahan scored three more times from all parts of the paint: crossing through the lane for a step-in shot at 4:54, a drive at 4:24, then a pull-up jumper from the left elbow at 3:13.

The 23rd West Coast Jamboree features 12 eight-team brackets, with games conducted at eight different sites throughout the Tri-Valley area. St. Francis takes on Canyon High (7-10) of Canyon Country in the Turquoise bracket consolation final. Tip-off is 4:30 p.m. at Chabot College.
