McGahan, Teoh open West Coast Jamboree with career highs

LIVERMORE, Calif. – Senior Bria McGahan and junior Sydney Teoh posted career-best scoring totals of 28 and 27 points, respectively, but St. Francis came up short in a 67-64 battle to Maria Carrillo in the first round of the Turquoise bracket at the 23rd West Coast Jamboree girls' basketball tournament Thursday morning.

The Troubadours move to 4-7 for the season, and will face the loser of the Oakland/Page contest at Alhambra High in Friday's 4:30 p.m. consolation semifinals.

The two leading St. Francis scorers accounted for 39 of their team's 51 total field goal attempts. McGahan hit 12 of 17 from the floor, including a pair of three-pointers, while leading the Troubies with five steals and six rebounds. Teoh connected on 3-for-6 from beyond the arc, adding four assists along the way.

Sophomore Lexi London scored seven points with sophomore Colleen Medina adding another bucket for the remaining nine SF points. Medina also chipped in four steals.

McGahan's total eclipsed her previous best of 24, set against Franklin of Stockton at Del Oro's Mike Takayama Memorial Tournament just two weeks earlier. Teoh's previous high was a 26-point outburst at Pleasant Grove last February 6.

The 23rd West Coast Jamboree consists of 12 eight-team brackets, with games hosted throughout the Tri-Valley area. Thursday's SF-MC opener took place at the Livermore Rec Center, with Alhambra, Chabot College, Carondelet HS, College Park HS, Dublin HS, Granada HS and Northgate HS also providing venues. The opposite side of the Turquoise bracket comprises Atwater, St. Mary's of Berkeley, Canyon and Foothill of Palo Cedro.
