SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis earned the No. 10 seed and will travel to No. 7 Patterson for the first round of the 2024 Sac-Joaquin Section Division II girls' basketball tournament, the governing body announced in its selection show Saturday afternoon. The contest takes place Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The Troubadours enter the postseason with a 14-13 overall record, having earned a playoff berth due to their second-place finish in the Delta League. The Tigers own a 26-2 mark and finished second (10-2) to Atwater in the Central California Conference race.
Senior wing Brianna McGahan leads SF at 17.2 points per game, having posted back-to-back 30-point contests in the final week of the regular season. She also averages 6.4 rebounds, behind only fellow senior Chidera Okoye (7.5) for the team lead. Junior guard Sydney Teoh has poured in 14.0 points per game with a team-high 3.5 assists. Teoh also paces the Troubies in three-point shooting (43-for-113), ahead of McGahan (38-for-116) and sophomore Lexi London (27-for-95).
For Patterson, Siena Musson rebounded from a season-ending ankle injury to lead her team in scoring the past two seasons with averages of 13.9 (2022-23) and 14.6 (2023-24). She posted 12 points and 15 rebounds against El Capitan in the regular-season finale for her fifth double-double of the year. Senior point guard Taylor Mason has chipped in another 10.5 points per game with team bests of 72 assists and 121 steals.
St. Francis seeks its ninth all-time SJS title in program history, and the first since snaring the Division I banner in 2011. The 2007 and 2008 championships came at the D-II level, with the first five (1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 2002) happening in the D-III ranks.
The top four seeds in this year's D-II bracket are Whitney, Vanden, Christian Brothers and Grant, respectively. The Troubies faced Whitney and CB earlier this season.
