Troubies' hoop playoff run ends at No. 2 Vanden

FAIRFIELD, Calif. – Post Chidera Okoye shot 6 of 9 from the field as part of a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds while wing Brianna McGahan drained three three-pointers en route to 11 points in their final games for St. Francis, which lost to Vanden by a 64-49 final in the second round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II girls' basketball tournament Friday night.

The Troubadours, seeded 10th in the playoff draw, finish their season with a 15-14 record. The No. 2 Vikings, last year's Division III champions, improve to 23-7 for the year.

Impressively, St. Francis posted the best challenge to Vanden by any SJS team this season. The Vikings went undefeated in the Monticello Empire League, winning by an average score of 81-22 along the way. Their only other games against section opponents were wins over Antelope on January 20 (77-56) and against Ceres in the playoff first-round game on Wednesday (75-32).

Junior Sydney Teoh led all Troubie scorers with 16 points, shooting 6-for-12 overall and a pair of three-pointers. Freshman Tayli Paeu-Lindgren followed her double-double in Wednesday's upset at Patterson with 10 rebounds and two blocks, while sophomore Lexi London chipped in another six points and six rebounds.

In fact, St. Francis shot .438 for the game (21 of 48) with a .454 clip (5-11) from beyond the arc, but suffered from 27 turnovers against Vanden's press.

McGahan and Okoye are the lone 2024 grads on the St. Francis varsity squad. McGahan finishes her final season with team bests of 468 points (16.7 ppg), 180 rebounds (6.4 rpg) and 90 steals (3.2 spg). Okoye led the Troubies in rebounding average, with 175 boards in just 23 games for a 7.6 rpg clip. Friday's game also marked her first double-double since going for 23 and 10 against Franklin on January 12.
