Troubies drop thriller on final day of WCJ

HAYWARD, Calif. – Junior guard Sydney Teoh scored 17 points while sophomore Lexi London added another 13, but St. Francis came up on the losing end of a 46-45 thriller against Canyon in the Turquoise consolation final game of the West Coast Jamboree girls' basketball tournament at Chabot College.

The Troubadours slip to 5-8 for the season. The Cowgirls, pursuing their third straight 20-win season, improve to 8-10 overall.

Teoh and London each shot 5-for-10 from the floor, while Teoh added another seven at the free-throw line. London added a three-pointer plus five rebounds. Senior Brianna McGahan grabbed a team-leading eight boards with three assists and two steals, and fell just one point shy of her seventh consecutive double-figure scoring game,

Teoh finished the weekend with 67 points in the three games, including the career-high 27 she set against Maria Carrillo in Thursday's tourney opener. McGahan was not far behind with 63 points for the tourney. Now in its 23rd year, the West Coast Jamboree featured 12 brackets at eight sites around the Tri-Valley area. Maria Carrillo went on to win the Turquoise bracket with its win over Foothill of Palo Cedro.

Among the other brackets, Sacramento-area schools Folsom (Platinum) and Whitney (Emerald) advanced to their respective brackets' championship games, although those contests were still in progress at press time. More details about the WCJ are available at https://www.westcoastjamboree.org/.

St. Francis varsity and JV Gold return to action on Wednesday in the Delta League home opener against Sheldon. Tip-off times are 5:00 and 6:30 p.m.
