McGahan, Okoye earn local hoop honors

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis seniors Brianna McGahan and Chidera Okoye each were named to the Sacramento Breakfast Optimist All-Star Game, while McGahan added fifth-team honors on the Sacramento Bee All-Metro team.

The Optimist All-Star Games take place at Sacramento Charter High this Saturday. Only Okoye will participate in the contest, with McGahan opting out due to conflicts to her commitments with the Troubadour varsity lacrosse team. St. Francis takes part in the 2 p.m. girls' large school game. Other games start at 10 a.m. (girls' small school), noon (boys' small school) and 4 p.m. (boys' large school).

Tickets are sold at the door, with all proceeds supporting the Optimist club's education efforts.

McGahan and Okoye each joined teammates Lexi London and Sydney Teoh on the All-Delta League first team last winter. McGahan led St. Francis in both scoring (16.7 points per game) and steals (3.2 spg) while Okoye paced her team in rebounds (7.6 rpg). St. Francis went 15-14 with a 9-3 league mark in 2023-24, advancing a round in the Sac-Joaquin Section postseason.
