Lions best Troubies in DO tourney semifinal

LOOMIS, Calif. – Senior post Chidera Okoye shot 3-for-5 from the floor and pulled down a team-best seven rebounds while senior wing Brianna McGahan led all Troubadours with 11 points, but St. Francis fell to a 68-38 loss to McClatchy in the semifinal round of Del Oro's Takayama Memorial Tournament Friday night.

The Troubies, which advanced after Thursday's dominating 86-20 win over Franklin (Stockton), slip to 4-5 for the year. This was the second time they had faced the Lions in a three-day span, as they traveled to CKM for a 71-34 loss on Tuesday leading up to the tourney.

St. Francis shot just 27 percent (13-for-48) from the field, with only 1 of 10 from beyond the three-point arc.

The Troubies will compete in Saturday's 3 p.m. third-place game at DO's Bonner Gym. The tourney is named in memory of the Golden Eagles' legendary coach Mike "Tako" Takayama, who led the program to 627 wins, 15 Sierra Foothill League titles and two Sac-Joaquin Section banners in his coaching career. Proceeds from the eight-team tourney support the Tako Takayama Scholarship, bestowed upon a college-bound female athlete.
