McGahan scores career high in DO tourney opener

LOOMIS, Calif. – Senior Brianna McGahan poured in 24 points while freshman Tayli Paeu-Lindgren, senior Chidera Okoye and junior Sydney Teoh each reached double digits offensively as St. Francis stormed to an 86-20 win over Franklin of Stockton in the opening round of the eighth-annual Mike "Tako" Takayama Memorial Tournament at Del Oro Thursday night.

The victory evened the Troubadours' season record to 4-4. Additionally, the 86 points marks the most by the SF varsity program since a 99-54 win at Monterey Trail back on January 20, 2017. Furthermore, the 66-point winning margin is the largest since SF rolled past Grant by a 93-25 score on February 16, 2016.

Overall, McGahan hit 11-for-18 from the field with a three-point shot, seven steals and six assists. Paeu-Lindgren drained 9 of 13 from the floor for 18 points, while leading her team with five rebounds. Okoye added another 14 points, thanks to 7-for-14 shooting. She also had five steals. Finally, Teoh tallied 11 total assists to go with her six steals on the defensive end.

All eight active Troubies scored points in the win, with Lexi London (8), Karly Okamoto (6), Aubrey O'Donnell (4) and Colleen Medina (4) joining the season-best output. Overall, SF shot .521 (38-for-73) for the night, with 30 total steals contributing to numerous transition opportunities.

McGahan's 24 points came as a welcome return for the senior wing. She sat out the Tuesday's road game at McClatchy after suffering an injury to her eye in last Friday's home win over Laguna Creek. It also represents a career high, surpassing the 22 she set against Calaveras at this same tournament one year earlier.

In fact, St. Francis will engage in a rematch with the Lions in the semifinal round of the tourney, with the two teams squaring off at 6 p.m. on Friday.
