Volleyball’s Patella and Cross Country’s Cole Awarded Co-Players of the Week

By Libby Slater, Sports Media Intern

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Two athletes Elizabeth Cole of Cross Country and Lauren Patella for volleyball have been awarded GoTroubies.com Co-Athletes of the Week for the week of Nov. 9-16.

Cole is a four-year cross country runner and is being awarded for her stellar run at the SJS Subsection meet. Cole led the team to a meet-winning 26 points while taking individual medalist in 21:00. She raced the difficult Frogtown course in the past and knew it was the hill workouts that they do in practice which allowed her to carry through for the win. Cole had her last race in Folsom, Calif., and was looking forward to "giving it my all for my last official race".

In her final race, seniors Emma Hollenbach and Cole went 1-2 in the Junior Varsity race that featured teams from all five divisions to lead SF to the team title with 23 points over Davis.

Junior Patella is being awarded for her play in playoffs. In the Section Final game Patella led the team with three serving aces, second on the team receiving and was third on the team with kills. She feels her team really came together with great energy to win in three sets.

Patella is in her first full year on varsity and starting  "JV was a lot slower and varsity is very fast paced game but it was an awesome transition. In the beginning of the season I was not quite sure if I would start but I just kept working hard and it paid off"

Both girls are officially done with their seasons. Cole is now focused on colleges and wants to be premed, studying biology and chemistry. Patella will continue volleyball in the off season with 5 Stars Club and is ready to come back her senior season and hopefully winning league and sections again.
