NORCO, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team placed fourth at the Woodbridge Invitational Saturday in the Bob Day Sweepstakes race behind Division I Buchanan (129), South Lake Carroll (129) out of Texas and Division 1 Great Oak (135) with 160 points.
St. Francis was the top Division II team in the field and ran 85:36, the fastest time by any Northern California team in meet history and eighth overall on the all-time list.
Sophomore Cate Joaquin led the team with a fifth-place finish in 16:25 with senior Izzy Fauria right behind in 16:33 in seventh place. Sophomore Tatiana Cornejo was 10th in 16:39. Senior Haley Silva crossed the line 53rd overall in 17:38 and junior Hanna Hekkanen was the fifth finisher in 18:18. Freshmen Simone DeBerry (108th/18:25) and Daphne Witherell (115th/18:28) had impressive races.
Overall, St. Francis had 42 student-athletes participate in the meet, fielding teams in five races. The Troubadours won both the Gold Frosh and Sophomore races. Freshman Paige Quigley won the Gold Frosh race in 18:53 with classmate Theone Diviagracia was seventh in 19:50.
In the Gold Division Sophomore race, Claire Silva crossed first in 19:15 with Nora Smith (19:39) and Peyton Cartson (20:10) finishing fifth and 10th respectively. Allison Williams crossed in 12th and Audrey Felsted was 14th in 20:22.
The program returns home this week for the Delta League meet on Wednesday and Capital Cross Challenge on Saturday.
