Garcia leads final dual win of 2023 season

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Freshman Nydia Garcia carded a 2-over-par 38 to lead St. Francis to a team score of 222 strokes, 70 ahead of host Elk Grove's 292, in a Delta League girls' golf dual match at WildHawk Wednesday.

The Troubadours finish the dual season with a 5-1 mark, with the lone loss coming against league favorite Pleasant Grove. The match took place on the front nine at WildHawk, which will also host the third Delta League center tourney this Monday.

All six St. Francis players posted scores ahead of the top Elk Grove player. Senior Aja Garcia followed Nydia Garcia (no relation) with an 8-over 44. Gianna Seghesio and Meredith Panfil, the latter of whom made her Troubie varsity debut, each finished with matching 46 scores. Senior Isabella Hrga turned in a 48 with junior Neta Tovar following at 52.

Nydia Garcia enjoyed a relatively wild ride en route to her 38. She stumbled with back-to-back double bogeys on holes 3 and 4, only to respond with three straight birdies on 5 through 7. Aja Garcia highlighted her round with a birdie on the par-3 fourth. Panfil's first SF lineup appearance featured pars on the two par-3 holes.

The third Delta League center tournament begins at noon on Monday. It also serves as the qualifying league tourney for Sac-Joaquin Section postseason play, with teams needing to break 450 across 18 holes to meet the minimum threshold.
