Troubies finish second at second league center meet

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Arden Han-Wei shot a 2-over par 74 while freshman Nydia Garcia improved eight strokes from her previous 18-hole round to an 81, leading St. Francis to a second-place team score of 418 strokes in the second of three Delta League center tournaments, this time held at Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course Monday.

This is the second time the Troubadours have finished second at a league tourney this season, following the 412 set at Haggin Oaks back on September 11.

Pleasant Grove dominated the field at 368, with Alaythia Hinds firing a 7-under 65 to lead all individuals. In fact, the Eagles had the only three players under par for the day, as Gianna Singh and Petra Yee turned in matching 71s. Franklin (430) edged Davis (434) for third place in the team standings, with Cosumnes Oaks (470) and Sheldon (505) following in fifth and sixth. Elk Grove only fielded three individuals and thus did not qualify for a team score.

Besides Han-Wei and Garcia, freshman Momina Niazi and senior Olivia Lee each carded 83, with senior Natalie Zipser adding a 97, and sophomore Gianna Seghesio finishing at 101 strokes.

The three center tournaments help determine the final league standings and all-league recognition, with the third tourney – at WildHawk on October 16 – deciding advancement to the Sac-Joaquin Section Divisionals. A score of 450 in the culminating tourney qualifies a team for a postseason berth.

St. Francis returns to action on Wednesday for a home dual match against Pleasant Grove. Players tee off starting at 3 p.m. at Haggin Oaks' Arcade Creek course. The match will also serve as Senior Day for five graduates-to-be: Lee, Zipser, Bani Chauhan, Aja Garcia and Isabella Hrga

NOTE: Wednesday's dual is Senior Day but is not the team's home finale... The Delta League dual with Franklin, previously scheduled for September 20, was recently postponed to Tuesday, October 10.
