Troubie soccer celebrates 2022 season

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Jaycee DeFazio earned Most Valuable Player for the offensive side of the ball, while senior Alex Davis snared MVP Defense distinction, as St. Francis varsity soccer celebrated the 2022 season with its annual awards banquet Tuesday night.

St. Francis went 15-5-3 for the year and won the Delta League title with a 9-2-1 mark. 

In addition to the two MVP winners, sophomore defender Elizabeth Barger claimed the team's Newcomer of the Year honor while seniors Kate Killer and Mika Shinoda each garnered the Troubies' Cornerstone Awards. Killer then presented junior teammate Madeline Welch with the program's Golden Boot award.

Head coach Maryclaire Robinson also recognized the All-Delta League honorees, which will be announced publicly on GoTroubies.com on Wednesday morning.

The two SFHS junior varsity programs held separate banquets earlier in the season. From the JV Gold squad, Yasmin Azar was selected as MVP, Brooke Harmon earned Best Defensive Player and Mia Barsotti won the Best Offensive Player award. Piper Sherburne picked up the Troubie Spirit Award. The honorees from the JV Red team were Alyssa Cheah (MVP), Sofia Rabinovitz (Offensive Player of the Year), Maggie Buffleben (Defensive Player of the Year) and Jada Dwyre (Most Improved Player).

The Troubies' JV Gold went 15-1-2 for the year while the JV Red sported a 13-3-2 final record.
