Troubie varsity soccer plays to 1-1 draw
ELK GROVE, Calif. - Senior midfielder Mika Shinoda converted an assist from junior forward Jaycee DeFazio for St. Francis' lone goal in a 1-1 draw during Delta League girls' varsity soccer action at Franklin High Tuesday night.

The Troubadour varsity moves to 1-0-1 for the year.

"It was good to get back into league and play against a great opponent," said head coach Maryclaire Robinson, whose team has been idle since its opener against Rio Americano. St. Francis varsity previously had a game scheduled against Vista Del Lago on Friday, but that contest was canceled, giving the elder Troubies a bye weekend.

Meanwhile in Folsom, the St. Francis JV Red squad blanked VDLHS by a 4-0 final. Goalkeeper Maggie Buffleben earned Player of the Game honors thanks to her 11 saves for the Troubies, while Abby Clark, Giuliana Del Guerra, Sofia Rabinovitz and Kate Stallings each netted goals. Clark and Del Guerra tallied their scores within the first nine minutes of action to set SFHS to its early lead, while Rabinovitz made it 3-0 just a minute into the second half.

The JV Red, coming off a win over an all-JV field in Manteca, remains unbeaten with a 5-0 overall record.

Concurrently to the Red triumph, the St. Francis JV Gold team snared a 4-1 win over Franklin, thanks to two goals from sophomore forward Piper Sherburne, another by Jianna Reyes plus a Wildcat own goal. Yasmine Azar added a pair of assists and Caitlin Hafenstein accounted for the third, while keeper Angelina Delaini came up with a highlight-reel save late in the contest, per head coach Alex Hoang.

Like the mostly freshman JV Red team, the Gold jayvees improve to 5-0 off a tournament title against an all-varsity field in Manteca the previous weekend.

The varsity and JV Gold teams return to action at Cosumnes Oaks on Thursday. Start times are 4 and 6 p.m., respectively.
